Catriona McCarthy
Ba (Hons), RN RM, IBCLC. ALCI Member.
My career started with the wish to be a music therapist but moved on to general nursing in the UK, then a degree in philosophy at UCD, a year in Africa, and midwifery in Scotland, London, Switzerland, and Dublin since 1983. I have a daughter who is now 20.
Breastfeeding does not make you a better mother but if you can find a way to feed your baby – and some of us are not given what is required to do that – I believe it educates all of us, ourselves, our children and our partners about how to nurture in a very special way that has long term wonderful results for life.
I enjoy the work of a Lactation Consultant and hope that I can help you. All you may require is some reassurance that what you are doing is right or you may require help with specific problems. Either way please contact me. These changes occur radically within the first 3 weeks and to be forewarned with knowledge is definitely to be forearmed when it comes to understanding the next step your baby and you have arrived at. Learning to be able to read the baby you get is the key to happy breastfeeding and parenting in general. Being able to recognise your own needs as a nursing mother is the key to a good milk supply and a peaceful house!
